Cryptococcus neoformans is an encapsulated yeast which can cause life-threa
tening central nervous system (CNS) infections in humans. Cryptococcosis fr
equently occurs in individuals with impaired cellular immunity, such as tho
se with AIDS and those receiving immunosuppressive therapy, but it has only
rarely been reported in patients with deficient humoral immunity. Cryptoco
ccal infection of the CNS has not been reported in an individual with X-lin
ked agammaglobulinemia (XLA). We present the case of an adolescent who deve
loped multiple cerebral cryptococcomas while receiving monthly intravenous
immunoglobulin for XLA.
