Abstract
A series of ligands derived from 2,3-butanedione and mono-, di- and tri-alk
oxy substituted benzoylhydrazines is synthesised and characterised; they re
act with nickel(II) acetate giving Ni(ligand-2H) square planar complexes, T
he complex with six peripheral dodecyloxy sidechains exhibits a columnar (C
ol(hd)) mesophase; the X-ray structure of a model complex is also reported.
