Abstract
Valence-band photoemission measurements were performed on VC0.80, VN0.89, V F3, and VF2+x at various photon energies across V 2p absorption edges. Whil e on-resonance spectra of VC0.80 and VN0.89 are dominated by V LW Auger lin es, strongly resonating structures in spectra of vanadium fluorides remain at constant binding energies, thus indicating a Fano-type resonance. Analys is of the data indicates the importance of strong metal 3d-anion 2p hybridi zation for the description of the electronic structure of early transition metal compounds.
