Abstract
Elementary investigations have shown that the use of ferrofluids in electro magnetic systems leads to an increase of the attractive forces. A new ferro fluid-driven actuator for a ventricular assist device allows to get a small er arrangement for blood pumps and, at the same time, to increase its effic iency. This efficiency will be examined for different ferrofluids in the de signed actuator. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
