Elementary investigations have shown that the use of ferrofluids in electro
magnetic systems leads to an increase of the attractive forces. A new ferro
fluid-driven actuator for a ventricular assist device allows to get a small
er arrangement for blood pumps and, at the same time, to increase its effic
iency. This efficiency will be examined for different ferrofluids in the de
