The preparation of rhodium(III) complexes with [2-(dimethylamino)ethyl]cycl
opentadiene is described. Starting from [{eta(5)-C5H4(CH2)(2)NMe2}Rh-I(eta(
4)-cod)] (1) and [{eta(5)-C5H4(CH2)(2)N(H)Me-2}Rh-I(eta(4)-cod)](+).(Cl)(-)
(2) the complexes [{eta(5):-eta(1)-C5H4(CH2)(2)NMe2}(RhCl2)-Cl-III] (3), [
{eta(5)-C5H4(CH2)(2)N(H)Me-2}(RhCl)-Cl-III(mu-Cl)](2)(2+).(Cl)(2)(-) (4), [
{eta(5)-C5H4(CH2)(2)NMe2}(RhCl2)-Cl-III(PPh3)] (5) and [{eta(5)-C5H4(CH2)(2
)N(H)Me-2}(RhCl2)-Cl-III(PPh3)](+).(Cl)(-) (6) were synthesized and charact
erized by elemental analysis, IR, H-1-, C-13- and P-31-NMR spectroscopy. Th
e X-ray crystal structure of complex 3 has also been determined where Rh(II
I) chelates through the cyclopentadienyl and the terminal -NMe2 group. (C)
