Structural, mechanical and thermodynamical properties of close packed binar
y systems of discs with hard, elastic and Lennard-Jones potentials of inter
action are considered. Using the method of molecular dynamics the transitio
n from crystal melting to glass softening with increasing relative dispersi
ty in disc size from 0 to 0.23 is investigated. A single particle mean-fiel
d model is proposed, which allows us to obtain straightforwardly the consti
tutive equation and shear modulus of the systems considered.
