I. Kaya et H. Mart, Determination of thermodynamic properties of poly (4-tert-butylstyrene) byinverse gas chromatography, J POLYM ENG, 19(3), 1999, pp. 197-208
Some thermodynamic quantities were obtained for the interactions of poly (4
-tert-butylstyrene) with alcohols, ketones, acetates, aromatics and alkanes
by the inverse gas chromatography method in the temperature range of 343-4
63 K. The specific retention volumes (Vg degrees), the adsorption enthalpy
of probes (Delta H-a), the partial molar free energy of sorption (Delta G(1
)(S)), the enthalpy of sorption (Delta H-1(S)), the entropy of sorption (De
lta S-1(S)), the weight fraction activity coefficients of solute probes at
infinite dilution (Omega(1)(infinity)), and the Flory-Huggins thermodynamic
interaction parameters (chi(12)(infinity)) between polymer and solvents ar
e given. The partial molar free energy (Delta G(1)(infinity)), the partial
molar heat of mixing (Delta H-1(infinity)) at infinite dilution and the sol
ubility parameters of the polymer (delta(2)) were calculated. The solubilit
y parameter of poly (4-tert-butylstyrene) was determined from either the sl
ope or intercept as 7.25 (cal/cm(3))(0.5) and 7.00 (cal/cm(3))(0.5) at 180
degrees C, respectively.
