The present work explores the characteristics of rare-earth ions-containing
chlorofluoride glasses, in which the anion-coordination environments aroun
d rare-earth ions are changeable by the substitution of Cl for F. In this s
tudy, chlorofluoroaluminate and chlorofluorocadmate glasses with substituti
ons of Cl for F were developed, whose compositions are 40AlF(3).(20 - x)BaF
2. xBaCl(2). 20CaF(2). 17YF(3). 3EuF(3) in mol% (x = 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12) and
50CdF(2).(20 - x) BaF2. xBaCl(2). 30NaCl + 0.1EuF(3) in molar ratio (x = 0
, 5, 10, 15 and 20), respectively. Changes in the anion coordination around
cations with the Cl substitution were examined by molecular dynamics simul
ation and Eu3+ fluorescence spectroscopy. The experimental results revealed
that the chlorofluoroaluminate glasses satisfy the present research object
, while the chlorofluorocadmate glasses exert no effect on controlling the
anion-coordination environments around rare-earth ions.
