Vibration isolation is important in rotating machines where the undesirable
effects of vibratory forces need to be isolated from foundations. This wor
k presents an application of the Kalman filter with a recursive estimator f
or determining the vibratory forces. The estimator employs a least-squares
algorithm to compute the magnitudes of the forces from the measured dynamic
responses. The feasibility and accuracy of the present method are demonstr
ated by numerical experiments to estimate the vibratory forces of a rotatin
g machine mounted upon isolators under operating conditions. The estimation
results reveal that the proposed method accurately predicts the vibratory
forces. The technique could be applied to practical forces estimation (C) 1
