T. Kato et al., Supramolecular side-chain liquid-crystalline polymers formed through intermolecular double hydrogen bonding, KOBUNSH RON, 56(6), 1999, pp. 410-413
The formation of double hydrogen bonds between a 2,6-bis(acylamino)pyridine
group and a benzoic acid moiety in the side-chain of polyacrylates or a po
lymethacrylate leads to the induction of a mesophase. Monotropic mesophases
are observed for these complexes below about 120 degrees C. The growth of
dendritic textures at the isotropic-mesomorphic transition is seen for a po
lymeric complex under polarizing microscope observation, which suggests tha
t these complexes show a hexagonal mesomorphic phase.
