R. Brunner et al., Childhood sexual abuse in the history of patients in high-frequent psychoanalytic long-term therapy: Prevalence and diagnoses, PSY PSY MED, 49(6), 1999, pp. 178-186
276 treatment records of patients who were undergoing high-frequent, outpat
ient, individual, psychoanalytic therapy were analysed with respect to the
prevalence and patterns of childhood sexual abuse in the history of these p
atients. 22.8% of all patients experienced narrowly defined sexual abuse du
ring childhood (the end of the 17th year); additionally, 35.2% of all patie
nts reported minor forms of sexually abusive experiences. The gender distri
bution, the age at onset of sexual abuse, and the relationship to the perpe
trator were analysed. Looking at psychoanalytic diagnoses, a significant co
rrelation between a history of childhood sexual abuse and a diagnosis of hy
sterical neurosis was found.
