The N-benzoyl-N'-2,4-dimethylphenylthiourea ligand (L) has been used to pre
pare Cu(ll), Ni(II), Pt(II), Pd(ll), Cd(ll) and Hg(II) complexes. The novel
complexes were characterized by EPR, IR and electronic spectroscopy. Tenta
tive geometry of the complexes involves four-coordinate environments, squar
e-planar (D-4h) for Cu(ll), Ni(II), Pt(ll), Pd(II) and tetrahedral (Td) for
Cd(ll) and Hg(ll) complexes. in these complexes the ligand coordinates in
various ways: in the [M(L-2)Cl-2]type complexes (where M = Pl(II) and Hg(Il
), the ligand acts as monodentate, being S-bonded to the metal ion and in t
he [M(L-H2)] type complexes (where M=Cu(ll), Ni(ll), Pd(II), Cd(ll) the lig
and is S,O bonded to the metal ion.
