D. Sutimanu et al., Influence of water on the behaviour of low-alloy steels in ethylene glycoland succinic acid organic media, REV CHIM, 50(1), 1999, pp. 33-37
This paper presents a study on three types of low alloy steels behaviour wi
th the carbon content taking values from 0,2% to 0,4%, in an organic, syste
m containing ethylene glycol, 5% succinic: acid and 1-5% water. From weight
losses, the figures K(g/m(2).h) and P(mm/m(2) year) were calculated The me
tallic surface was visualized by electronic microscopy and, for the system
with 5% water concentration the anodic and catodic polarization curves were
plotted. Also, the corrosion parameters were calculated. The corrosion com
pounds with the composition determined by chemical analysis were characteri
zed by X-ray diffraction and IR spectroscopy. A corrosion mechanism was ass
igned. The main conclusion is that corrosion rate decreases with the increa
sing of carbon content from the steel.
