Recent calculations of electron and proton impact excitation rates in Ne vi
i are used to calculate theoretical emission line ratios involving both Del
ta n=0 (2-2) and Delta n=1 (2-3) transitions in the similar to 97-895 Angst
rom wavelength range. A comparison of these with existing solar observation
s, obtained by instruments on rocket flights and on the Skylab mission, rev
eals generally good agreement between theory and observation. This provides
experimental support for the accuracy of the atomic data adopted in the li
ne ratio calculations, and implies that the latter may be applied with conf
idence to the analysis of solar and stellar spectra from current and future
satellite missions.
