Jb. Mehta et al., PSEUDOEPIDEMIC OF NONTUBERCULOUS MYCOBACTERIA IN A COMMUNITY-HOSPITAL, Infection control and hospital epidemiology, 16(11), 1995, pp. 633-634
Soon after our hospital instituted the BACTEC mycobacterial isolation
system, the proportion of cultures positive for nontuberculous mycobac
teria increased dramatically. After eliminating other possible sources
of contamination, the BACTEC probe's sterilization time and temperatu
re were increased, and the incidence of positive mycobacterial culture
s returned to its former rate (Infect Control Hosp Epidemiol 1995;16:6
33-634).
