Isoamericanol A 4 and isoamericanin A 5 have been synthesized via a novel e ffective route. 3,4-dihydroxycinnamic alcohol 3 is self-coupled to afford i soamericanol A 4 which is oxidized to obtain isoamericanin A 5.
