The response times of light-emitting electrochemical cells (LEC) can be dec
reased to several microseconds by minimising phase separations in the activ
e layer. This e.g. can be realised by optimising the phase morphology of th
e blend of an ion conductive polyethylene oxide and an electronic conductiv
e laddertype PPP or by using a single polymer combining electron- and ion c
onduction properties, so that phase separations are excluded. Latter can be
realised by a PPV with ionic conductive sidechains. We present efficient L
ECs yielding extremely low onset voltages.
