Novel polyanilines (PAnOE), containing two or three oxyethylene units in th
e polymer side chain, were prepared electrochemically. The cyclic voltammog
ram of PAnOE showed a reversible redox couple around 0.6 V(vs. SCE) and ano
ther redox couple at more negative potentials. The latter couple was attrib
uted to then-type doping and undoping reactions. The molecular weights of P
AnOE were high (1,000,000), and the conductivity values were about 1 mS/cm.
These unique electrochemical and electrical properties were compared with
those of poly-N-alkylanilines.
