Abstract
Electrocrystallization of ET in the presence of aromatic and aliphatic sulf onate anions has led to: many new ET salts. These new ET based sulfonate co mplexes are characterized with use of x-ray diffraction, four-probe conduct ivity measurements, ESR and Raman spectroscopies. A new kappa(4x4) donor pa cking motif was observed in (ET)(2)(C6H5CH2SO3)(H2O). Strong hydrogen bondi ng between the sulfonate anion S-O and the donor ethylene C-H provides the driving force for the ET salt formation, Many of these new sulfonate salts are highly conductive with some remaining metallic to similar to 4 K.
