Insoluble films of oxidized oligo(2,5-di-(-2-thienyl)-furan) [oligo(SOS)] w
ere synthesized on Pt hom a 5 mM monomer and 0.2 M LIClO4 + acetonitrile 0.25% (v/v) water solution at 0.4 mA cm(-2). Insoluble films of reduced oli
go(SOS) were further obtained by reduction in the background electrolyte at
0 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The solubilities of both forms in several solvents were d
etermined. Dimer,trimer, tetramer and pentamer present in solution were det
ected by mass spectroscopy-fast atom bombardment. The band diagrams for the
electronic transitions of both states were established from UV-Vis spectra
of their saturated solutions.
