The electropolymerization mechanism of (2,5-dibenzylidene)-1,3,4,6-tetrathi
apentalene (3) has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Standard oxidat
ion potential and lifetime of radical-cation intermediate (RC) have been de
terminated by fast scan voltammetry. The initial steps or the polymerizatio
n involve coupling of two RC to the corresponding dimeric dication, as evid
enced by the variation of peak potentials with the scan rate.
