The results of spectroelectrochemical ESR studies as well as of in situ con
ductivity measurements performed on poly[(2,5-dibenzylidene)-1,3,4,6-tetrat
hiapentalene] (polyDBTTP 1) are presented. The polymer comprises polaron/bi
polaron systems corresponding to the presence of three redox systems. The r
elative electrical resistivity strongly depends on the applied potential an
d correlates well with the spin density. A partially oxidized state 2 beari
ng one positive charge per monomer unit accounts for the conducting propert
ies of the material.
