Abstract
The thermal behavior of several a-alkylated quaterthiophenes is investigate d. Polarizing microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry reveal that 5,5"'-dipropylquaterthiophene exhibits a nematic liquid crystalline phase w hile oligothiophenes bearing longer alkyl chains have more ordered high tem perature phases.
