Abstract
The two title compounds, both C16H13N3S, were synthesized by photolysis of 4-(2-bromo-4-methylphenyl)-5-(2-methylphenyl)-l,2,4-triazole-3-thione and 4 -(2-bromo-4-methylphenyl)-5-(4-methylphenyl) -1,2,4-triazole-3-thione, resp ectively. Both molecules consist of a 7-methyl-1,2,4-triazolo[3,4-b][1,3]be nzothiazole moiety linked to a methyl-substituted phenyl ring. The interpla nar angle between the triazole-benzothiazole fused fragment and the phenyl ring is 66.8(1)degrees in (I) and 35.4(1)degrees in (II). The structures of both compounds are stabilized by weak C-H ... N-type interactions.
