Cerium concentrate, a low-grade material obtained at an early stage in refi
ning ceria from raw ore, was employed as a support for model Pd catalysts,
Both the support and the catalysts were characterized by a combination of t
echniques including oxygen storage measurements. Results are compared with
those from similar catalysts made with pure ceria. The cerium concentrate i
s generally inferior to pure ceria as a support material and oxygen storage
component. However, its effectiveness is greater than that of an inactive
support, and thus it could be suitable for certain applications. (C) 1999 E
