Abstract
A procedure involving equilibration of soil with 0.40 M acetic acid (normal ly used to estimate lime) was used instead to monitor changes in acid-buffe ring capacity of topsoil, in an area exposed to acid emissions. Samples tak en from 15 sites in 1997 were analyzed together with matching samples taken in 1992. The procedure detected a smaller acid-buffering capacity in 1997 than in 1992 at two sites.
