Abstract
Genomic DNA encoding for human aldehyde reductase (AKR1A1), a member of the aldo-keto reductase superfamily, was isolated and characterized. The genom ic DNA is approximately 16 kb in length and contains eight exons which enco de the entire coding region and the 3'-untranslated sequences. AKR1A1 was l ocalized on chromosome 1p33 --> p32 by fluorescence in situ hybridization.
