Pv. Sevastyanov et al., PROCESSING METHODS AND RESULTS OF 3-YEAR MONITORING DATA ON PERIPHERAL-BLOOD OF CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS IN THE SLAVGOROD DISTRICT, Gematologia i transfuziologia, 41(6), 1996, pp. 31-35
The results of three-year peripheral blood monitoring of schoolchildre
n living in the Slavgorod Region of the Mogilev Region exposed to radi
ation in the Chernobyl accident are presented. The findings were summa
rized by using the methods elaborated by the authors for biological da
ta processing, based on a combination of the conventional mathematical
statistical methods and the fuzzy sets theory. The latter reveals the
determinants of the steady tendency of brood quality deterioration in
children and teenagers living in the rural areas of the Slavgorod Dis
trict. The undesirable tendencies were found to be associated with the
negative dynamics of some red blood parameters, including ones rarely
examined in peripheral blood analysis, such as mean red blood cell vo
lumes. This made it possible to improve a screening technique and to o
btain results which are of the greatest interest to hematologists who
work with children residing in contaminated areas.
