The karyotype of a male Acomys nesiotes (Rodentia, Muridae) from Northern C
yprus contained 38 chromosomes (NFa=66, NF=68). C-heterochromatin was local
ized in centromeric areas of certain autosomes and the X chromosome. The G-
banding pattern of chromosomal arms of A, nesiotes was very similar to that
of A, cilicicus. The karyotypes of these two species differed because of a
single autosomal Robertsonian rearrangement. A. nesiotes, A. cilicicus, an
d A. cahirinus represent a group of karyotypically closely related species.
In Eastern Mediterranean, the other group includes A. dimidiatus.
