Turbulent flow in a narrow open channel is investigated using the large-edd
y simulation (LES) technique in which the surface is allowed to freely defo
rm. A relatively large Reynolds number of 90,400 (defined as 4RUmean/) is u
sed in the simulation and it is shown that good resolution is required in o
rder to reproduce the effects of the turbulence-driven secondary currents.
The simulated results are in good agreement with experimental measurements
and previous calculations.
