Acoustic scale modelling is used to study sound propagation in a city stree
t canyon. The acoustic performance of several noise abatement schemes is in
vestigated at various receiver heights for noise fields produced by differe
nt categories of vehicles travelling in the two lanes. The results are disc
ussed in terms of the attenuation rate predicted along the canyon and the i
nsertion loss. It is shown that although the effects produced by complex no
ise abatement schemes are significant they cannot be predicted by simple ad
dition of the effects from the individual components of the schemes. (C) 19
