Abstract
The p-nitrobenzyl ester of the dansyl derivatives of fifteen amino acids we re prepared acid chromatographed on silica gel plates using a series of sin gle-solvent mobile phases, Multiple linear regression was used to construct a model that predicts retention as a function of the polar surface area an d the nonpolar surface area of each solvent, The values of the intercept an d regression coefficients are solute-dependent, but the form of the predict ive equation is concordant for all solutes.
