For extrusion and continuous vulcanisation of (automotive) profiles, high a
nd constant output and shape consistency are needed, along with fast curing
characteristics and a high level of physical properties of the extruded vu
lcanisate. It is now clearly established that the apparent difference in rh
eological properties of EPDM compounds is not only due to the molecular wei
ght distribution, but also caused by long chain branching independently fro
m the molecular weight distribution, has resulted in EPDM polymers with a c
ombination of excellent processing characteristics and cured physical prope
rties at low levels of termonomer.
