A statistical model of the development of fluctuations of the refractive in
dex in a photopolymer hologram is considered within the framework of the Ma
rkovian random process. It is shown that the reverse action of these inhomo
geneities on the initializing radiation determines their amplitude to a gre
at extent. Dependences of the level of noise of the hologram on the thickne
ss of the polymerizing layer and the reflectance of its boundaries are stud
ied theoretically and experimentally.
