Abstract
We find analytic solutions for the general variable-coefficient KdV equatio n of the form u(t) + f(t)uu(x) + g(t)u(xxx) = 0. We make use of both the ap plication of the truncate Painleve expansion and symbolic computation to ob tain an auto-Backlund transformation and certain soliton-typed analytic sol utions with a constraint on f(t) and g(t), (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier S cience B.V.
