Most of the alloying elements will be added to steel melts or melts of iron
-base special alloys as a master alloy. Frequently this contains stilt othe
r elements, which cause desired or not desired properties in the steel or i
n the special alloy. That's why a knowledge about the chemical composition
of the master alloy - in the case here it is a Fe-BAI-Ti master alloy - is
necessary.
In this given report the number of phases is seized metallographically, the
composition of the phases as like as their type of structure is identified
by electron beam microprobe investigations, and the equilibrium relations
are plotted in a quarternary system. The proved intermetallic compounds exi
st in the neighbourhood of the total composition of the master alloy, relat
ed to a quarternary system. As an advantage of the AB- and AB(2)-compounds
seems to be a suboccupying of the A-sublattice, because in this case a 3(rd
) and 4(th) component can be included in the compound, and no more complica
ted structures of the quarternary system are necessary.
