A. Rimmerman et al., JOE PLACEMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH PSYCHIATRIC DISABILITIES IN SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT, Psychosocial rehabilitation journal, 19(2), 1995, pp. 37-43
The purpose of the study was to predict the likelihood of job placemen
t for individuals with psychiatric disabilities as compared to those w
ith severe learning disabilities and mental retardation during the fir
st 6 months of participation in an employment program. The most signif
icant finding was that within each of the disability categories an age
by gender interaction contributed to differential placement probabili
ties. In early adulthood, the probability that men would obtain a job
was greater than for women, however this probability reversed after ag
e 35 when women were more likely to obtain a job than men. Overall, in
dividuals with psychiatric disabilities had a lower chalice to be plac
ed than either those with learning disabilities or those with mental r
etardation.
