The early stage of carbonization of the industrial polyimide film based on
pyromellitimide was studied under various high-temperature operating condit
ions. The mechanisms of intramolecular and intermolecular thermochemical re
actions of polyimide structures and the products of their degradation were
studied by spectral and thermal analyses. The materials-science characteris
tics of polyimide carbonizates, practically important for high-temperature
operation of polypyromellitimide films and fibers, were determined.
