Abstract
Spinodal decomposition in a finite size system is studied based on the traditional Cahn-Hilliard approach. The instability criteria for spin odal decomposition in a finite domain are determined and compared with the corresponding criteria for infinite systems. The spectrum of unst able modes is established. The role of the surface in the decompositio n process is analyzed.
