Abstract
Optically encoded second-harmonic generation was enhanced by irradiating th e germanosilicate glass with a pump beam of wavelength of 355 nm along with preparation beams at frequencies omega and 2 omega. The origin of this enh ancement was investigated by measuring the absorption spectra before and af ter preparation. The results suggest that the enhancement effect is related to the creation of an electron trapped center (GEC: germanium electron cen ter) via a band-to-band excitation.
