S. Wegmuller, PALYNOSTRATIGRAPHIC ANALYSIS OF SEDIMENTS OF LATE PLEISTOCENE AGE FROM KOLLIKEN (SWISS PLATEAU), Eclogae Geologicae Helvetiae, 90(1), 1997, pp. 133-141
In the area of the village Kolliken, which is situated southwest of Aa
rau (Swiss plateau), several corings were carried out in order to prov
ide information about the geology and hydrogeology of a hazardous wast
e disposal site. Core KB 10 revealed three silty organic layers, which
were studied by means of pollen analysis. The underlaying minerogenic
layer consists of reworked lodgment till, the overlaying layer is a l
oess-like loam. The pollen records revealed sequences of two interstad
ials. The first interstadial (Kolliken I) is dominated by Picea and Pi
nus, whereas Abies appears only in small amounts. From the second inte
rstadial (Kolliken II) only the initial phase is recorded. This phase
is characterized by the expansion of Betula and Pinus. The bio- and ch
ronostratigraphic positions of both interstadials are discussed in det
ail; they most probably belong to the Early Wurm.
