In 1914, American and international neurology were already very well develo
ped, but like the other scientific and societal forces of the time, they un
derwent numerous changes as a result of World War I. This article reviews t
he state of neurology between 1914 and 1917 as it can be inferred from the
journals of the time, the main topics they covered, the meetings, and the n
eurological societies, as well as some of the actors on the neurology scene
during these years. it concludes with a brief survey of the ways in which
