In glasshouse tests, 20 plant species were inoculated with an isolate of As
cochyta rabiei (DAR 71767) obtained from chickpea in South Australia, and m
aintained under humid conditions for 72 h at 20 +/- 5 degrees C. The isolat
e was pathogenic to chickpea and four common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cult
ivars (Brown-boy, CH-190-7D, Cran-34 and Rain-bird). None of the other plan
t species was infected by the pathogen. The pathogen was re-isolated from t
he affected common bean cultivars and pathogenicity to chickpea was confirm
ed.
