A technique for propagation of Philodendron panduraeforme Scott by the cult
ure in vitro of axillary buds is described. Shoot regeneration occurred whe
n the axillary buds were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium lackin
g growth regulators. Multiple shoot regeneration was obtained by culturing
nodal segments of regenerated shoots on MS medium, solidified with 0.7% aga
r and supplemented with 3 mg/L benzyladenine. Root regeneration occurred in
high frequency when the regenerated shoots were recultured on strength MS
medium, 3% sucrose, 0.7% agar and 2 mg/L activated charcoal. The cultures w
ere maintained at a constant temperature of 27 degrees C and a 14 h photope
riod (40 mu mol m(-2) s(-1)). The regenerated plantlets were then successfu
lly grown in pots.
