Kj. Fahmi et Aih. Malkawi, Dynamic site response evaluation of the Port City of Aqaba (Jordan) employing the equivalent linear method, CAN GEOTECH, 35(6), 1998, pp. 961-975
As part of an ongoing research program to develop local seismic engineering
ground motion parameters for implementation in the Jordanian Seismic Build
ing Code, a practical contribution is made to determine the local site coef
ficient (S) for the Port City of Aqaba, southern Jordan. Employing probabil
istic peak ground acceleration estimates using FRISK, the overall dynamic s
ite response design spectrum is obtained through the calculated response sp
ectrum based on selected soil-rock column profiles applying SKAKE91. The pa
rabolic shape of the S coefficient design spectrum is given by the followin
g relationships:
S=1.06 for Tb/Ts less than or equal to 0.56
S = - 0.81 + 4.68(T-b/T-s) - 2.38(T-b/T-s)(2) for 0.56 < T-b/T-s less than
or equal to 1.43
S = 1.00 for T-b/T-s > 1.43
where T-b and T-s are the structural and site response design periods (in s
econds), respectively.
