Liquid side mass transfer has been investigated for pure carbon dioxide abs
orption on interfacially perturbed vertical water liquid films. Perturbatio
n was made by dropping low surface tension alcohol solutions on water film
surface. The type of alcohol solutions, the dropping frequency and the numb
er of the dropping points determine the increase of the mass transfer rate
over the unperturbed state. Values obtained for liquid mass transfer coeffi
cient in the CO2-water absorption present the evolution with operating para
meters such as Ioan (1996) and Hikita (1959). (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd
