Abstract
The hair follicle is a complex microorgan with a pivotal role in the immune system of the skin. It is a reservoir of resident keratinocytes, melanocyt es, and Langerhans cells, that replenishes surface epithelium. It is also o ften the earliest site of immune reactions in the skin. Follicular organiza tion, function, and alterations in disease states are discussed.
