Computer inventory of the soil cover

New GIS-based principles of making inventory of information concerning the soil cover at different generalization levels are suggested. The approaches described in the article are regarded as developments of the traditional m ethods of soil mapping. The application of these principles makes it possib le to create a system of collecting, storing, and processing information on soil resources at a national level.
