Abstract
It is shown that the characteristic relaxer behavior of KLT is due to the c ollective pi/2 reorientations of off-center lithium ions in the highly pola r host KTaO3. The reorientation provides a simple microscopic mechanism for the coupling of polarization and strain as manifested by the striking diel ectric resonances observed in KLT.
