Abstract
The effect of adenoidectomy (controls) on habitual open mouth posture was c ompared with adenoidectomy in combination with a logopedic instruction prog ram (cases). One hundred and fifty-nine children were included (aged 2-10 y ears, mean age 4.6 years). The instruction program consisted of three indiv idual logopedic sessions at 1 week, 2 weeks and 4 weeks postoperatively. On e week preoperatively, 2 months and 1 year postoperatively an estimation of open mouth posture was carried out. Two months postoperatively there was a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.001), but 1 year post operatively this difference had disappeared (p = 0.526). The logopedic inst ruction program was not effective for the youngest age-group (<3.6 years).
